Kentucky boy’s iPod shuffle worth more than the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
LOUISVILLE—In a powerful statement about the growth and success of the Apple brand over the past several years, a Louisville pawn shop employee valued a Kentucky boy’s iPod Shuffle at $36 today, several dollars more than the total GDP of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Nodding to the quality of Kentucky’s public schools, the eleven-year-old boy said nothing when told of the iPod’s comparative worth, likely because he had no idea what the Congo was.
“I told the kid… hold onto it a little longer,” a man claiming to be the child’s grandfather recalled. “In a year or two, it’ll be worth as much as Malawi. Then, we’re really talking.” An anonymous eye witness revealed that the elderly man proceeded to forcibly remove the screaming boy from the store when he refused to leave without his $36. “It was a horrible sight,” she added. “Just a monster of a child.” It was later revealed that the shuffle was loaded with the Tangled soundtrack, also worth more than the Democratic Republic.
