Breaking: Warner Bros. releases thousands of snowy owls imprisoned during filming of Harry Potter series
HELENA—Following an explosion of snowy owl sightings across the northern United States, a spokesman for Warner Brothers Entertainment announced today that the company had been imprisoning the birds for over a decade. According to the statement, Warner Bros. began collecting snowy owls during the filming of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in over a decade ago. As scenes featuring the franchise’s most popular owl, Hedwig, grew more complex over time, the company found itself catching them in increasingly high numbers to keep up. The problem? During their acquisitions, the company refused to release their retired birds.
“We kind of just really grew fond of all of them,” a producer for the film revealed in an interview. “We couldn’t say goodbye.” Estimates suggest the company amassed 5000+ over the course of twelve years, leading to impossibly unsanitary conditions for the crew. “There were owls everywhere,” the franchise’s cinematographer added in an interview. “In any given scene, there were probably two to three hundred of them flying around. It was a nightmare for our editor.” Before a shipping error set them free, Warner Bros. had been planning to attach the owls to special edition blu-rays of the films.
