Report: Wipe of Megaupload’s servers will likely erase ‘Owl City’ from the history books.
AUCKLAND—A spokesman for the now defunct file sharing giant Megaupload issued a warning today to all who would seek to destroy its wealth of stored data. According to the statement, electro-pop rockers Owl City would ‘almost certainly’ disappear off the face of the earth with a wipe of the site’s servers. An accompanying 20-page report revealed that there hasn’t been a single documented case of anyone purchasing a physical copy of any Owl City record in years. “It’s just one of those things that’s not worth a single dime,” a cashier at a local record store explained. “But if I see it on Megaupload and nobody’s in the room, sure… I’ll download it.”
The problem? Nobody keeps Owl City’s music on their harddrive for more than a few hours. “As soon as your best buddy walks in, you’re moving that garbage right to the trash can,” the cashier continued. “You can’t risk anybody knowing you sometimes listen to that one song that was on the radio a few years ago.” Sources close to Owl City’s Adam Young have disclosed that he’s already working on a new project nearly identical to his previous four. Attempts to gauge fan reactions were unsuccessful, as no one would admit they actually liked the artist.
